Crystal Palace have received encouraging news regarding Daniel Muñoz’s shoulder injury, with reports from Colombia suggesting the defender will not face a long spell on the sidelines.
The latest update comes from journalist Pipe Sierra, who relayed information first reported by fellow Colombian journalist Julián Capera. According to them, the injury suffered by the Crystal Palace right-back is not considered serious.
Capera stated: “Daniel Muñoz’s injury is not serious and did not involve ligament or bone damage.”
That immediately reduces the likelihood of a prolonged absence. The expected recovery timeline is also relatively short, with an estimated recovery time of between 10 and 12 days.
Return expected before squad announcement
Pipe Sierra expanded on that information while discussing the potential impact on the upcoming international break.
“Daniel Muñoz will be out for a little less than two weeks and will return just before the publication of Colombia’s squad call for March,” Sierra wrote on social media, citing Capera’s reporting.
That timeline means the Crystal Palace defender could still enter the conversation for the national team depending on how his recovery progresses. “He will only be available to Néstor Lorenzo if he is called up”, Sierra said.
Colombia manager Lorenzo is expected to name his squad for the March international fixtures shortly, meaning Muñoz’s recovery will likely be closely monitored over the next few days with the national team medical staff.
Encouraging outcome for Crystal Palace
For Crystal Palace, the update represents a positive development after the initial concern surrounding the shoulder problem.
Earlier discussions in Colombian press had suggested three possible diagnoses. A simple contusion, a dislocation, or a ligament injury. The last of those would have been the most serious scenario.
With ligament damage now ruled out and a recovery window of roughly 10-12 days suggested, the expectation is that Muñoz’s absence will be brief.
That should allow the right-back to return relatively quickly and avoid a longer disruption for Oliver Glasner’s side.
If the current timeline holds, Palace could soon have their defender back available, with the focus now shifting to ensuring he completes his recovery properly before returning to action.
