Newcastle United have opened talks with Bruno Guimarães over a new contract, and Brazilian outlet UOL has already outlined how the process is taking shape.

Their report says the discussions remain at an early stage, with both sides expecting a clearer movement when the new year begins.

According to UOL, there is no rush on either side. Bruno’s current deal runs until June 2028, and the likely scenario involves an extension of one or two years with a salary increase. The club see this as a strategic step and there’s sense of rush or panic.

Newcastle United want to reward a midfielder who has become a symbol of their rise under Saudi investment. He now captains the team, plays Champions League football, and delivers in key moments.

UOL recall that his last renewal came in 2023. That agreement included a €100m release clause, which expired at the end of the 2023/24 season. As a result, interested clubs can now only sign him through a direct agreement with Newcastle United.

No intention of leaving Newcastle United

The report adds that Bruno has shown no intention of leaving, despite past approaches from Barcelona and a more recent enquiry from Manchester City. His main target remains a stable run towards the next World Cup with Brazil.

For now, the timing and final terms of the extension remain open, and the next steps will depend on how talks evolve when negotiations resume in the new year.

Whenever given the opportunity, Bruno Guimarães has always made it clear to the Brazilian media that’s happy where he is. Whilst many players like leave their future open on hint at their next steps, there’s been none of that from the midfielder.
