Tottenham’s search for a high profile winger after failing to seal a deal for Manchester City’s Savinho last summer appears to have put themselves in the most predictable outcome possible – by returning for Savinho himself.
Here we are again. In recent weeks, reports in Brazil have made it clear that City were ready to move the Brazilian on.
They had lowered their expectations, accepted he was no longer untouchable, and started waiting for a club with enough Premier League money to make the deal work.
As it turns out, the club who may fit that description is Tottenham. Again.
Tottenham interest never left
Globo Esporte report Spurs have opened talks with Manchester City to try to sign the Brazilian in the next transfer window. The first contact between the clubs was over a permanent transfer, although talks are still at an early stage.
According to the Brazilian story, the winger is one of the names being considered as Tottenham plan attacking reinforcements for Roberto De Zerbi’s squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
As we covered at the time, Spurs made an attempt for him in October last year. That came before the attacker signed a new Manchester City contract, which now runs until the middle of 2031.
At the time, City were in a very different place with Savinho. Pep Guardiola personally blocked Tottenham’s move because he still trusted the player. City then rejected an approach worth around £59m (€70m).
Now, the situation has changed. He finished the campaign with four goals and two assists in 35 games. In addition, thigh injury problems disrupted his rhythm.
City now have a real suitor
As we previously covered, City are now open to selling Savinho and would listen at around £42m-£50m (€50m-€60m). The club want to recover part of their investment while his market value remains strong.
At that price, clubs in Spain, Germany or Italy would find the deal difficult. A huge offer from the Middle East or Asia could change things, but England always looked the likeliest route.
The funny thing, really, is that City seemed to be waiting for a new Tottenham to arrive for Savinho. Instead, Tottenham came back themselves.
Now the challenge is turning old admiration into a deal that still makes sense for both sides.
