Manchester United midfielder Casemiro increasingly looks destined for Inter Miami, but the story behind that possible move is far more layered.
Over the last few months, Casemiro’s future has gone through several twists. In the end, however, all roads leads to an exit. And he appears to have already made up his mind, as per fresh reports in Brazil.
Why Casemiro chose MLS over Europe and Saudi Arabia
The key detail here is that Casemiro did not move towards the United States because he lacked options elsewhere. Quite the opposite.
According to ESPN Brazil, Italian clubs, including Inter Milan and Juventus, explored his situation in the past few weeks. Saudi Arabia also presented ‘astronomical’ financial offers. Meanwhile, Manchester United themselves tried to convince him to remain at Old Trafford.
Still, Casemiro and his family seem to have settled on a different vision for the next phase of his career.
The midfielder reportedly views MLS as a long-term career project rather than a retirement league.
The idea is not necessarily to slow down immediately, but to keep competing at a high level in an environment with less physical and emotional strain than top-level European football.
Casemiro has repeatedly said in recent interviews that he still feels physically strong and capable of performing at a high level for several more years. Internally, the belief is that he can continue playing at elite standard for at least another four seasons.
A three-year contract in the United States fits neatly into that thinking, while setting him towards a very comfortable retirement at the same time.
Inter Miami leading race – but not completely done
Inter Miami remain the clear favourites to sign the Manchester United midfielder. Conversations are advanced and the project built around playing alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez clearly appeals to him.
However, the move is not technically finished yet. ESPN says LA Galaxy still retain some hope of hijacking the situation. The California club continue trying to position themselves in discussions, even if Inter Miami currently hold the advantage.
At the moment, though, everything points towards Miami.
The lifestyle element also appears important here. Casemiro’s decision has reportedly been made together with his family, something the midfielder himself has stressed repeatedly when discussing his future.
In the end, though, the decision appears bigger than football alone.
Casemiro seems to have chosen what he believes is the best environment for the final major phase of his career – and right now, that environment increasingly looks like he’s heading to Florida.
