Nottingham Forest may not be done hearing from Botafogo about Cuiabano. Despite the player’s emotional farewell earlier this week, Brazilian outlet Bolavip now outline the detailed plan the Rio club have been preparing to convince Forest to extend his loan.
As we reported in recent days, Botafogo never fully gave up on the idea. This new piece shows the strategy is still alive.
According to Bolavip, Botafogo believe they have “good chances” of reaching an agreement with Nottingham Forest. The defender is scheduled to report back to England on 2 January, but internally, there is optimism.
The club intend to open formal talks soon and argue that Cuiabano would not have immediate space in Forest’s first-team squad. That position, however, depends entirely on how the Premier League side view their depth at left-back heading into the second half of the European season.
Textor-Marinakis link on the spotlight again
The relationship between John Textor and Evangelos Marinakis is once again cited as a factor that could open doors. The report claims Textor would even be willing to step in personally to help secure the extension, as he remains a strong admirer of Cuiabano’s game.
Botafogo’s main advantage is priority: if Nottingham Forest agree to loan Cuiabano to Brazil again, the Rio club would be first in line. The defender is also said to be open to staying in the country for another year, which boosts the club’s confidence.
The sticking point is duration. Forest would only consider a loan until 30 June. Botafogo want him until the end of 2026. Negotiations over the next few days will determine whether there is any room to bridge that gap.
For now, even after farewell messages, chants from supporters and all the emotional packaging, the Cuiabano chapter refuses to close. And Botafogo’s plan to keep him clearly remains in motion. Forest, once again, will have the final say.
