While Everton and Roma may have been expecting transfer deals under the Friedkin reign, it seems the American owners have other plans.
According to Tele Radio Stereo, via La Roma 24, the Italian side are about to take Everton’s sponsors Stake.com.
The website reports that there is a ‘major breakthrough’ in Rome’s search for a new main sponsor. According to the radio show’s information, the Giallorossi club are close to signing up Stake.com.
This is interesting, and seen as ‘credible’, because Everton are currently the main sponsor at Everton. They, of course, are also owned by the Friedkin family. And Roma’s apparent interest comes at an interesting time.
Stake will no longer be allowed as sponsors in the Premier League next season. Everton were also contacted by the Gambling Commission over the sponsorship back in February after Stake lost their license. Stake remained on Everton’s shirts but are set to be removed next season.
That could ‘free company up’ to join a new partnership with Roma instead. Although that would also be fraught with difficulties. The “Dignity Decree” in Italy prohibits gambling sponsors on football shirts.
A brand ‘related to’ Stake would have to be used instead. This is something Inter Milan have done with Betsson.sport.
Either way, it seems that the Friedkins aren’t quite ready to part ways with Stake just yet, utilising their relationship from Everton to Roma’s gain.
