Manchester City fans, let’s take you back to 2012, back when Roberto Mancini was still in charge and the club had just won their first trophy.
A few months after that, the club were clearly doing some scouting on how to improve their squad, and there was a desire to sign a new defensive midfielder.
We know this because Yann M’Vila, in an interview with Libération in France, revealed that Manchester City were talking to him about a possible move.
That will have been during the first half of the 2012-13 season, because in October of 2012, the player made a decision that would impact his career drastically: going on a night out with four other France U21 internationals while they were called up to the national team.
The others were Chris Mavinga, Antoine Griezmann, Mbaye Niang and Wissam Ben Yedder, but there is a feeling that M’Vila was impacted the most, which he assumes.
He assumes that because he was the oldest, with already 22 France caps under his belt for the first-team, and he should have known better.
That decision to go on that night out meant he was never called up to the national team again and also cost him a move to Manchester City.
He said: “It’s true that we are judged by what happened afterwards, but that’s the game. You know it and assume it. Before it happened, I was in touch with Manchester City, who had asked me for my shirt number…”
