Liverpool have their eyes on Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano and are considering a move for him.
That’s according to BILD and journalist Tobias Altschäffl, who reveal Liverpool’s interest in the French defender today.
The Reds are still in the market for a centre-back after failing to add in that area beyond the addition of highly rated Italian defender Giovanni Leoni.
There is also a growing concern about Ibrahima Konate, whose current deal expires next summer. He is yet to sign an extension to that and has been continually named as a target for Real Madrid over the last year.
Even if he remains there is a belief that Liverpool need another player in that position, particularly after Leoni suffered an ACL in the win over Southampton the Carabao Cup this week. That showed the lack of options in the position in Liverpool squad.
Now it appears that they have a fellow Frenchman on their list of options in Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano.
“What we can reveal is that Liverpool FC is also considering Dayot Upamecano,” Altschäffl reported.
“The contract of Ibrahima Konaté, whom we know from his Bundesliga career with Leipzig, is expiring there. Of course, they’re considering Upamecano; he’s on their radar.
“The more time passes, the worse it is for Bayern. Because the more time passes, the more clubs enter the race, the more they try, and the more expensive it becomes.
“If he doesn’t get injured and maintains his form, it will become increasingly difficult for Bayern. They want to extend his contract; they’ll put a lot of effort into it. But the competition – including Real Madrid and Liverpool FC – is fierce.”
