Wilfried Nancy has endured a difficult start to his Celtic career since arriving earlier this month.

Foot-Sur7 reports he was priority target for AS Saint-Étienne before he agreed to join Celtic.

The French club could be given a fresh opportunity to sign Nancy if Celtic were to quickly cut ties with him. Nancy has managed three matches for the Scottish club, losing all three. This includes a defeat to St. Mirren in the Scottish League Cup.

Recent claims in the UK have suggested the Celtic board have asked Nancy to change his tactics. There’s also suggestion his position could be in danger if Celtic suffer defeats in their next two matches against Dundee United and Aberdeen.

The first part may be questionable, but the second part surely isn’t. Such a run of defeats at Celtic would likely lead to the sack.

Foot-Sur7 state Saint-Étienne are keeping a close watch on the situation. Eirik Horneland is currently in charge at the club, who are now second in the Ligue 2 table.  They have struggled in recent weeks, winning only four of their last 10 league matches.

Therefore, Saint-Étienne could jump on the opportunity to replace Horneland with Nancy if Celtic decide to part ways with their manager. It’s claimed the Ligue 2 side have already failed to sign Nancy on two occasions.
