Ever since the idea that Marcus Thuram could be a free agent this summer appeared, Newcastle United have been linked with the France international, with them even said to be in pole position at one point.
The news was made official last week, as Borussia Mönchengladbach revealed their star forward would no longer be continuing at the club beyond the current season.
This will have pricked the ears of more than one club, including Newcastle and Inter Milan, whom Calciomercato reckon is the favourite to replace Romelu Lukaku at the San Siro.
However, they also know they aren’t the only interested club in the race to sign the player, who was one of France’s contributors on the way to their World Cup final, even turning the tide back in his team’s favour in the decisive game itself after he was subbed on in the first half by Didier Deschamps.
Inter do feel some confidence they can tie the player up, but it’s pointed out that Thuram has ‘several offers from English and German clubs’ that he is ‘evaluating very carefully’.
Newcastle aren’t named, but it certainly wouldn’t be surprising to see them in the mix for him considering all the interest they have had over the past few months.
And if they aren’t but they do want him, then they better get cracking.
