After sending scouts to watch Toulouse-Bordeaux towards the end of the season, West Ham have finally made a move for one of their targets, Issa Diop.

According to L’Equipe on Wednesday, the Hammers have come forward and offered Toulouse somewhere in between €15-20m for the 21-year-old defender.

As things stand, the Ligue 1 side are yet to respond to the bid, state the French newspaper, with many other clubs circling around their captain, who has been reported as ‘aware’ of his need to find another club to continue his development.

Such a bid from West Ham suggests they’re ready to make him one of the central figures in their defence, which is an area they’ve been in dire need of updating after it was announced James Collins would be leaving the club once his contract expires.

The emergence of Declan Rice last year certainly helped, but more depth has been needed at centre-back, and it appears Manuel Pellegrini has decided to lump on the France U21 international to rectify that particular problem.
