In one of the strangest stories you’ll see all day, Claudio Ranieri is apparently set to take over at Tottenham to replace Mauricio Pochettino.

This is, at least, what Presse Océan, a Nantes based local newspaper, claimed on their website Monday and in their paper edition on Tuesday.

According to them, there’s a 99% chance Ranieri won’t be the Ligue 1 side’s manager next season, with clues dating back to a few months ago when one of his staff members told the person in charge of teaching them French it was ‘over’ and they ‘wouldn’t be there next season’.

The second clue came when the Italian skipped his club’s 75th birthday celebrations, deciding to attend Manchester United-Tottenham and Arsenal-West Ham instead, claiming he was only there because there had been some flooding in his London flat he had to deal with.

That excuse didn’t exactly go down well with Nantes, who didn’t believe him, leading to more tension within the club.

Now, this is where things get interesting, as Presse Océan then claim that ‘according to their information’, Ranieri is in talks with Spurs, whom Pochettino is set to leave at the end of the season after three years of ‘loyal service’.

They don’t exactly know where to, suggesting Chelsea in brackets with a question mark, but they seem pretty confident about the Tottenham-Ranieri part.

While Ranieri did win the Premier League with Leicester City, making him Pochettino’s successor would be a very weird move by Daniel Levy; one we can’t exactly get our head around.

We’ll be keeping an eye on this, but, as things stand, if we were Tottenham fans, we wouldn’t be worrying too much about this.

Yet.
