Newcastle United have been linked with numerous players since their takeover was confirmed last week.

With the Saudi PIF their majority owners, the Magpies are expected to have a new energy in the transfer market.

That’s seen lots of outlandish claims, and some which could make a lot of sense. Most of the stories have been coming from the Italian and Spanish press, with the former sending out claims in a machine-gun style.

Now there’s involvement from France, where RMC report Newcastle United are targeting Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana.

According to the claims, there’s already been contact from the Magpies to Fofana’s entourage. The defender is becoming a ‘priority track’ for the Saudi ownership, say RMC.

The PIF have let Leicester know a ‘concrete offer’ could arrive ‘in the coming weeks’, once the player has returned from his long term injury. RMC believe the next few months are set to be ‘eventful’ for Fofana.

It’s also pointed out the defender has ‘always shown his attachment’ to Leicester and Brendan Rodgers, so don’t rule out this being a play for a new contract, especially given the claims are coming from France.
