Over the past couple of weeks, reports of an N’Golo Kanté exit from Leicester have calmed down a little, mostly because the player is currently focused on the 2016 Euros with France, but that hasn’t stopped his club from looks at other players.
One of the names touted as a potential replacement for the midfielder was Nice’s Nampalys Mendy, probably a more defensive minded option than the France international, but many saw this as an indication Kanté was definitely on his way out.
Well, according to Le10 Sport as an exclusive on their website, the deal taking the 23-year-old from the south of France to Leicester is very close to being concluded, claiming it’s pretty much done barring a ‘huge change of mind’.
The transfer is apparently expected to cost the Premier League champions somewhere around €12m (£9.5m), and many see this as yet another coup from Leicester, with Mendy being highly rated in France.
We’re still not going to hold our breath over this being done just yet, mostly because of Le10 Sport’s track record with exclusives in the past, but this is a big claim compared to some of their other ones, and they probably wouldn’t make it without having some kind of decent information.
