We’ve now all come to terms with it: David Luiz is once again a Chelsea defender.
Arriving on transfer deadline day in a surprise move, the smiley Brazilian will once again grace our football pitches with his majestic hair and eccentric style of defending.
The former Benfica starlet’s departure didn’t seem to upset too many people in France, apart from those who grew attached to his personality.
One man who will miss him, however, is Serge Aurier, Paris Saint-Germain’s right-back, who will have a lot to prove this season following very public off the field antics last season.
Speaking to Le Parisien, he said: “David Luiz, he’s someone who brought his craziness a bit, his joie de vivre, and gave a lot here. We really are losing a great defender, but we’ll have to do without. What’s good is that we have a lot of versatility at the back.”
Never really replacing the departing defender, Paris Saint-Germain now only have three natural centre-backs in their team in Thiago Silva, Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe.
Of course, Grzegorz Krychowiak and Serge Aurier can fill in those roles if necessary, but you feel another defender could have been brought in last minute.
Then again, there’s always January.
