With Crystal Palace currently trying to sign a central defender, and reports from Belgium the Eagles have had a bid rejected for Kara Mbodji, moving onto the next available target seems the logical thing to do.

Also after Liverpool’s Mamadou Sakho, Sam Allardyce is now reported to have made an approach for Valencia’s Tunisian centre-back Aymen Abdennour.

According to Nabil Djellit, a reporter for France Football, on Twitter, both Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion have had a loan with a view to buy rejected by Valencia, where Abdennour currently plays.

Yesterday, we revealed that Tony Pulis was also in talks to try and bring in Romain Thomas from Angers, but with the French club wanting a full transfer from West Brom rather than the loan with an option to buy they were offering, negotiations had stalled.

Clearly looking for a stop gap for the remainder of the season, both the Baggies and Crystal Palace appear to be weaving through transfer deadline day with a scattergun approach, which, if you ask us, probably isn’t the best way of handling things.

Abdennour has only made nine appearances for La Liga side Valencia this season, starting seven of those, as Gary Neville’s former team currently sit 15th in the league after 19 games.
