With Victor Osimhen and Harry Kane seemingly out of the question for Manchester United, Erik ten Hag is having to look elsewhere for a new striker.
The name that keeps returning to the fore is that of Rasmus Højlund, with many seeing the Dane as the Red Devils’ answer to Erling Haaland, even if there remains a huge gap in quality between the two.
Many feel the potential is there, though, including Manchester United, and Corriere dello Sport appear to have a very small but important update on Tuesday.
Looking at what could happen at Atalanta this summer, it’s said that the Serie A side have ‘established an advantageous position’ compared to the competition for El-Bilal Touré, currently at Almeria.
However, it’s then pointed out that this deal could only happen with the sale of Højlund, who has received a lot of interest from Manchester United.
In fact, the young forward has reportedly ‘promised himself’ to the Old Trafford side, and is currently ‘waiting to see if the two clubs’ can ‘quickly reach an economic agreement’.
Unlike Haaland at his age, Højlund has not been a free scoring striker, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t impress at Atalanta after his €17.2m arrival from Sturm Graz last summer.
In his first season in Serie A, the 20-year-old scored nine goals and assisted another four in 32 appearances.
