Over the course of the January transfer window, we covered a claim from L’Equipe that Leicester City had made a bid for RB Salzburg player Sekou Koita.
Having seen his first half of the campaign riddled with injuries, the 23-year-old is slowly getting back into the swing of things, and is happy to be doing so at his current club.
For example, the Leicester target came off the bench against SV Reid on Friday and scored, and is clearly hoping to have an injury free second half of the campaign.
That’s what he explained in an interview with Laola1 in Austria, where he was directly asked about the interest from clubs in January, including Leicester.
He said: “I didn’t think about a change, because I’m happy here in Salzburg. That’s why my management didn’t get involved at all.”
That’s because Salzburg turned down two offers from Leicester and TSG Hoffenheim worth about €10m or so, but it sounds as if Koita would have turned down the chance to move himself had they been accepted.
