Only spending two seasons at West Ham, which included a loan to Rennes half way through, Alou Diarra probably won’t be remembered by the London club as one of their greatest players, only making 14 appearances for the Hammers.
Bought from Marseille and signing a three-year contract, the player signed on the back of playing in the 2012 Euro for France under Laurent Blanc, but, as with his move to Liverpool earlier in his career, it didn’t work out.
Speaking to RMC in France, having a chat with former Birmingham striker Christophe Dugarry, the midfielder was asked to look back on his career at some of the moves he might have regretted making.
First speaking about Liverpool, a transfer that came ‘far too early’ in his career, the midfielder also mentioned West Ham, and had a slight dig at Sam Allardyce.
He said: “It’s true that, at West Ham, I would have liked to play under someone more open, someone more understanding.”
Now at Nancy in France, the 35-year-old appears to be happy, even getting on the scoresheet on his first game for the Ligue 1 minnows.
The midfielder signed for the French club after a season at Charlton, where he made 45 appearances, also scoring one goal.
