Former Tottenham and QPR midfielder Adel Taarabt is really seeing his career drowning at Benfica.
Besides being sidelined for over a year, the player now has another problem. According to A Bola, his agent has given up on him.
Taarabt was working with Kia Joorabchian, who was responsible for his move to Benfica on a free in 2015.
Joorabchian got the player a decent deal. He had just been released by QPR, but still managed to sign a five-year contract, with gross salaries of €2.3m per season plus a €3m signing on fee.
Taarabt didn’t make a single official appearance for Benfica for the entire season. So Joorabchian agreed a deal with TSV 1860 Munich, from Bundesliga 2. The player didn’t want to sign, so the agent lost his patience and ended the partnership.
Taarabt’s situation got worse when he gave an interview to French media criticising Benfica’s board. That’s when the club president said he wouldn’t play for them again, and the Eagles are now looking for a solution. A permanent transfer or even a loan would do. But without an agent, things get even more difficult.
