Erik ten Hag arrived at Manchester United in the summer after helping Ajax win the title last season.
During his time in Amsterdam, the 52-year-old guided Ajax to success in the Eredivisie, the KNVB Cup and the Dutch Super Cup.
The current Manchester United manager’s first experience in the topflight came when FC Utrecht appointed him in 2015. He spent two years with them before joining Ajax.
In his first season at Utrecht, Mark Diemers was one of the players to train under Ten Hag. The 28-year-old joined Feyenoord in 2020 and is currently on loan at FC Emmen. At his parent club, he played under the orders of Arne Slot.
ESPN Netherlands had an opportunity to interview the midfielder. When asked to share his views on who he would prefer between Ten Hag and Slot, Diemers made an interesting claim about the Manchester United coach.
“I choose Arne Slot. I can only talk from my time. I found Ten Hag insanely good tactically, so were his training sessions. I just didn’t think he was very good at that time, on a human level. But that was already six or seven years ago. I thought Slot was a lot stronger on a human level,” Diemers said, relayed by Voetbal Primeur.
“Look at what kind of clubs he has worked at, so he must also have qualities on a human level. I still have contact with him via WhatsApp. Then he also comes across as very friendly to me. He will undoubtedly have grown on a human level as well.”
