Sport24.gr have reported Aston Villa defender Joleon Lescott is very close to completing a move to Greek Super League side AEK. It’s been claimed Lescott is very keen to live in Athens, and AEK officials have indicated the negotiations are progressing very quickly.
Temur Ketsbaia, AEK manager and former Newcastle United player, told Joleon Lescott that he is keen to sign him, and the 2-time Premier League champion has responded positively.
The Georgian coach wants an experienced partner for 24-year old Dimitris Kolovetsios and certainly thinks Lescott fits the bill. It’s also worth noting that AEK also have former Barcelona player Dmytro Chygrynsky at their disposal.
Lescott suffered relegation with Aston Villa last year, and the club have been trying to offload him as new boss Roberto Di Matteo has made it clear he doesn’t need him.
Lescott has also reportedly rejected a move SPL side Rangers due to family reasons, despite manager Mark Warburton’s massive efforts to sign him. Glasgow was deemed to far away from Lescotts family, and of course Greece is further… but it’s a lot sunnier.
