Unable to break through at Everton, David Henen’s contract with the Toffees came to an end in June, allowing the 22-year-old to try and find a new club where he’d feature regularly in the first-team.
Links to some English clubs appeared in May, but the player’s preference was said to be a return to Belgium so he could be closer to his family.
As things stand, Henen has yet to find a new club despite training with Antwerp earlier on in the summer, but DH in Belgium believe a new start could be just around the corner.
According to the outlet, Mehdi Bayat, who is Charleroi’s managing director, has recently contacted Roberto Martinez, the player’s former manager at Everton, to find out more about the forward.
This suggests the Jupiler Pro League side are interested in signing the former Toffees’ man, who would still be free to join even after August 31st, since free agent moves aren’t restricted to the transfer window period.
While this doesn’t affect Everton directly, the Belgian has always maintained healthy interactions with the Goodison Park faithful on social media, and we thought they might be interested as to what his future potentially holds.
