Leeds United and Southampton target Joseph Paintsil is set to join MLS side LA Galaxy, according to Het Laatste Nieuws.

Both the Whites and Russell Martin’s side showed keen interest in the winger last summer, when Leeds had reportedly reached an agreement with KRC Genk.

Genk sporting director Dimitri De Condé had even revealed Southampton wanted to sign the 26-year-old as part of the deal for Paul Onuachu, but he wasn’t willing to join them.

Leeds and Southampton were negotiating with Paintsil, but he snubbed the two English clubs for a longer stay at the Jupiler Pro League side. HLN now claim he didn’t feel right to leave Genk for the Championship.

Meanwhile, the American club have continued to push for his signature and have been very convincing.

It’s said the Ghana international’s move to LA Galaxy is in the final stage and the Belgian club will receive €8.5m in return, which is more than his release clause. Some sources have informed HLN that Paintsil will double his salary at LA Galaxy.

They add the player’s impending exit is financially good for Genk, but not sporting wise. He’s managed nine goals and five assists from 33 games this season.
