Tottenham Hotspur’s Luka Vušković could move to La Liga as Barcelona are looking at him for the summer.
That’s according to Sky Deutschland, who report Barcelona have the Tottenham player in their target list for next season.
The La Liga winners’ manager, Hansi Flick, is looking for a centre-back after this season. Sky say ‘one thing is clear’… that Barca will bring a new defender to the Camp Nou.
The Catalan club have several names on their list, including Vušković, who signed for Tottenham from Hajduk Split last summer.
Thomas Frank, who was then in charge at the north London club, left the 19-year-old out of his core plans this season. Therefore, Spurs let him join Hamburg SV on a season-long loan deal.
Barcelona make contact for Tottenham man
The Croatia international has played 2,100 minutes from 23 matches in all competitions for the Bundesliga side. His performances for Hamburg have clearly not gone unnoticed.
Earlier this season, Sport Witness covered claims from Germany of Barcelona as an option for the defender after this season.
Sky now pick up on that and report that the Spanish giants have held ‘first talks’ with the Tottenham owned player’s agent.
Hamburg dream of retaining Spurs defender
Vušković has repeatedly expressed his desire to extend his stay with the German club beyond this season. His brother, Mario, is also at Hamburg and is serving a doping ban until November.
Luka’s dream is play with his brother and can fulfil it with Hamburg next season. Merlin Polzin, their manager, recently talked about his desire to retain the youngster. Hamburg sporting director Claus Costa has also discussed the possibility of retaining him.
Sky again relay their comments and talk about Hamburg’s dream of having Vušković at the club next season.
However, the report states the German club’s ‘options are limited’. That’s mainly because of the growing interest from clubs that have better finances than Hamburg. This would make it complicated for them to fulfil their dream.
Our take on Vušković future
Tottenham parted ways with Frank and appointed Igor Tudor until the end of this season.
They have to appoint a new permanent manager, who will have a huge say on Vušković’s future next season.
The Croatian won’t be short of options if he decides to leave Spurs, either on loan or a permanent transfer.
As things stand, the player will return to the Premier League side, after his loan spell at Hamburg.
