On Friday, we covered claims from Spain that Villarreal have identified Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Gonçalo Guedes as a priority target to bolster their attack in January.
Last summer, the winger returned to Benfica on loan but his stay there will be cut short soon since he hasn’t featured regularly this season.
Super Deporte state the Wolves man will become a Villarreal player in the ‘coming days’ if everything goes according to plan.
Villarreal’s Ben Brereton Díaz completed a loan move to Sheffield United and if the deal for Guedes goes through, he’ll take the Chilean’s place in the squad.
The Eagles have to agree to end the 27-year-old’s loan stay, so that he can return to Wolves, who can then let him join the Yellow Submarine in the winter market.
Maisfutebol state the process has already started, and add that Benfica and Gary O’Neil’s side are ‘finalising the details’ to terminate the Portugal international’s loan deal.
This is expected to be sorted out soon as the report says ‘announcement should be made in the next few hours’.
Once that’s done, the Wolves owned player ‘will soon’ sign for the Spanish club on loan until the end of the season and without a purchase option. The move will also see Guedes reunite with Marcelino García Toral, who managed him at Valencia.
That timeframe may be a little optimistic, things with Guedes often drag on a little.
