Leeds United ‘have not yet officially applied’ to Feyenoord over manager Arne Slot and the Dutch side are not interested in letting him go.
That’s according to general manager Dennis te Kloese, who has commented on the reports of Leeds interest to Voetbal International.
The Whites are on the hunt for a new manager after sacking Jesse Marsch earlier this week and Slot has been quickly named among the leading candidates.
Indeed, reports in England have made it clear that Leeds have made their move for the Dutch coach, who has led Feyenoord to the top of the Eredivisie this season.
That came after their frustrated attempts to secure other targets, such as Rayo Vallecano manager Andoni Iraola, who turned down their approach.
It seems it is news to Feyenoord and general manager Te Kloese that Leeds are pushing for Slot, though, with him insisting that there has been no approach
“I have heard nothing from Leeds,” he is quoted as saying.
“Neither officially nor unofficially. Besides, I know Leeds as a correct club, so I don’t believe they are playing this behind our backs. Last summer, Luis Sinisterra’s transfer also just went in a very neat, correct way.”
According to VI, Te Kloese’s plan is to finish the season with Slot and he also ‘assumes’ that the coach will still be in the dugout next season.
His current contract runs until 2025 after it was extended last year, although there is a plan for the club to sit down with him in the summer for an ‘evaluation’ and then possible improvement and further extension.
That remains the case despite the fact that Leeds’ attention ‘is now focused’ on Slot as they seek Marsch’s replacement and if they do ‘formally report’ to the Dutch club in the coming hours, they will be told definitively that Slot ‘is not for sale’.
Despite reports elsewhere that is yet to happen, though, with Te Kloese insistent that he is yet to receive any contact.
