Chelsea are desperate to trim down their bloated squad and this has been forcing them to sell their academy graduates.

It doesn’t seem as if Lesley Ugochukwu will be leaving the Blues permanently though, with Southampton making quick progress in their move for the French midfielder.

FootMercato have reported that the 20-year-old will leave Chelsea in the ‘coming hours’ but the Blues will not move him out permanently.

Southampton, it is reported, will sign Ugochukwu on a loan deal without having an option or obligation to buy him permanently. They are in advanced talks for him, with only a ‘few details left’ for the transfer to close now.

Everton were one of the interested clubs recently but the Saints seem set to ‘win the bet’ for the midfielder, who will be getting some more Premier League experience in the upcoming season.

Ugochukwu made 12 Premier League appearances for the Blues last season, but had played less than 300 minutes, and he’ll be looking for much better with Southampton.
