Newcastle United, Everton, West Ham United and Nottingham Forest are all said to be looking at Benfica’s Vangelis Pavlidis.
This was initially reported in the UK, and today’s edition of A Bola, after relaying it, share their take.
With Newcastle, Everton, West Ham and Nottingham Forest mentioned, Benfica ‘fear of another attack from England’ for the striker.
The Greece international has impressed this season, scoring 25 goals and registering 10 assists this season.
Benfica consider the 26-year-old indispensable and have him part of their plans for next season. He joined them from AZ Alkmaar last summer and isn’t considering leaving after one season.
Despite this, there’s interest from England, where Newcastle, Everton, West Ham and Nottingham Forest are mentioned. Barcelona are also credited with an interest but are unlikely to invest big to secure his services.
Benfica are expecting to receive offers from the Premier League, without specifying any clubs. They believe Pavlidis’ English suitors could try to tempt him with a higher salary and the possibility of playing in the Premier League.
The frontman has a €100m release clause and the newspaper insists Benfica feel safe due to the high price. They have no plans to negotiate, meaning interested parties have to activate his clause to sign him.
It feels like Pavlidis’ agent or an intermediary is trying to create hype around him using the English clubs. A Bola’s report could be Benfica responding to it by insisting he won’t be sold for less than €100m.
