FC Copenhagen have taken the unusual step to explain why they have sold goalkeeper Nathan Trott on a permanent basis to Cardiff City.
The Danish club’s website provide comments today from technical director Nils Koppen regarding the move.
Cardiff City move confirmed
Nathan Trott has spent this season on loan at Cardiff and established himself as the Blues first choice. The 27-year-old has 41 appearances in League One this season, with 41 goals conceded and 16 clean sheets to his name.
The deal includes an option for Cardiff to make it permanent. The Welsh side, who will be back in the Championship next season, are taking up that option to sign the goalkeeper.
That has led to some questions at Copenhagen. Trott’s performances away on loan have not gone unnoticed this season. But Nils Koppen says there’s logic to the deal for them.
“Nathan has delivered a great season in Cardiff, which has meant that they have wanted to keep him,” he said.
“Since we have assessed that Nathan would not be the first choice at F.C. Copenhagen, and since the agreement also falls within the financial framework that we believe is acceptable, we have chosen to sell Nathan to Cardiff.
“We wish Nathan good luck in the future and thank him for his time in Copenhagen.”
€1.5m or more
There’s no mention of the fee that Cardiff will be paying for Nathan Trott this summer. But his current valuation is €1.5m, the highest it’s ever been.
That’s also what he cost Copenhagen in 2024, so they would make their money back at that price.
On the face of it then, it’s a deal that suits all parties. Cardiff lock down the goalkeeper, Trott continues where he’s comfortable and Copenhagen get a deal that they’re obviously happy with.
