Thursday’s edition of A Bola has an interview with Marco Silva which is so long it feels like it may have been better served as an autobiography.

The 47-year-old Fulham manager spoke about every subject you could probably think of related to his career so far, and mentioned Everton on several occasions.

Perhaps the most interesting of which was when A Bola asked Silva if Everton is the biggest club he’s managed in English football.

The Portuguese coach has been in charge of Hull City, Watford, the Toffees and Fulham and said Everton is “undoubtedly” the biggest.

He then went on to tell A Bola that the Portuguese media and wider public really don’t grasp just how big the Merseyside club is: “It’s a fascinating club, it’s a huge challenge to be in charge of Everton. I understand that in Portugal people don’t really understand the importance I’m giving to the club, but those who are in England, who work in England and who have in-depth knowledge of English football understand what I’m saying.

“Before this Manchester City avalanche, Everton were the 5th or 6th club with the most league titles and titles in England, but in recent years that situation has reversed. However, Everton have a tremendous history, but at the moment, due to recent events, they are aiming for different goals. When I was there, and then with Ancelotti, the club always wanted to be in the top eight. But there was a divergence between the fans’ soul and what was actually possible to achieve, creating the idea that defeat was felt in a fateful way.”

Marco Silva is proud of his time in charge at Goodison Park and made the point that even Carlo Ancelotti didn’t have a season quite as good as he did.

A Bola didn’t follow up Everton answer by asking whether the manager would like to return there at some point in the future, which feels like something of an open goal missed.
