Igor Jesus is on his way to Nottingham Forest, and received a proper farewell from Botafogo on Wednesday night at the Estádio Nilton Santos.

As reported by Globo Esporte here, the 22-year-old striker was honoured at half-time of the club’s home match against Vitória, with applause from fans and a commemorative plaque delivered by directors Alessandro Brito and Léo Coelho.

The forward is spending the final stretch of his holidays in Rio de Janeiro before travelling to England at the end of the week to join up with Forest. His transfer was agreed for €20m (around £16.8m).

Signed by Botafogo in July 2024, Igor Jesus made 59 appearances for the club, scoring 17 goals and assisting six more. He played a key role in their historic season, helping the side win both the Copa Libertadores and the Brazilian Championship.

The player’s send-off was met with chants of “thanks, Igor” from the stands, showing the admiration he earned in a short but successful spell.

For Nottingham Forest fans, the excitement should now start building.
