Wolves are starting to show signs of life in a difficult campaign, and João Gomes has played a key role in that response.

In an interview with Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, the midfielder spoke about Wolves’ recent run, the work behind it, and his landmark of 100 appearances in the Premier League.

A glimpse of hope for Wolves

Wolves picked up their first league win of the 2025-26 season earlier this month, beating West Ham United 3-0. Since then, the team have gone four matches unbeaten in all competitions.

That sequence also included a convincing FA Cup win over Shrewsbury Town. João Gomes insists the improvement did not come out of nowhere.

“Even before we started this unbeaten run, we were already playing well,” he said. “We conceded a goal in stoppage time against Arsenal in London after a great performance. We knew it was a matter of making adjustments. These four matches without defeat are not a coincidence.”

The midfielder stressed that the focus inside the club remains intense, with the aim of climbing away from the relegation zone.

“We are working very hard every day to get Wolves out of this situation,” he said. “The season ends in May and there is still a long way to go. We ask the fans to keep believing in us because we are very committed to changing the situation the team is in.”

A Premier League centurion

The win over West Ham also marked João Gomes’ 100th appearance in the Premier League. He treated the milestone as a special moment in his career.

“It is another dream come true,” he said. “The Premier League is the biggest national league in the world. Everything here is sensational, from the level of the games to the atmosphere in the stands.”

There’s confidence verging on cockiness in Italy this week that the midfielder is set to sign for Napoli in the summer. Given how fond he sounds of English football, that confidence may be misplaced.

João Gomes also highlighted the bond with supporters at Molineux and underlined his commitment to the fight ahead.

“I can only thank everyone who has always trusted me and given me the chance to step onto the pitch to represent Wolves,” he said. “The affection from the fans is incredible, and I really want to give that back. I will give my life on the pitch so the team can finish the season safe from relegation.”
