It’s fair to say things have started to get wild when it comes to Viktor Gyökeres and transfer rumours, so much so that Everton are now being linked with a €100m move.

Yes, you read that right, with Correio da Manha covering the player today and the growing fears he could be snatched away.

Gyökeres has been shining at Sporting since joining them in a €20m move from Cardiff City in the summer, with his current record 22 goals and 10 assists in 25 games in all competitions.

That is likely to have improved before the season is out and hasn’t gone unnoticed, with several big sides now thought to be in the mix for him.

Indeed, reports in Portugal have Chelsea making an €80m offer at one point and even concerns they’ll happily pay the €100m release clause in his contract.

Correio da Manha pick up on that today and randomly throw Everton into the mix, explaining that they are one of several sides who ‘have the financial power’ to get the player out of Sporting.

They explain that there is a growing fear at Alvalade that an English club could appear on the horizon and pay the €100m clause to take Gyökeres away before the end of the transfer window, much like Chelsea did to Benfica with Enzo Fernandez last year.

They name Everton, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea as the clubs who have been ‘keeping an eye’ on the forward and insist any of them could pay that clause if they want to.

That’s a pretty fanciful claim, though, particularly around Everton, who have made it publicly known they don’t have two pennies to rub together, particularly as they battle two breaches of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.

The idea of them paying €100m for anyone even without those issues is wild regardless given they’re also building a new stadium and every penny appears to be getting spent on that.

Instead, this is just a further demonstration of how the transfer rumours have gone wild around Gyökeres, with every club now being thrown into the mix to keep the mill churning as he continues to impress in Portugal.
