Claims that money stopped Juventus midfielder Adrian Rabiot joining Manchester United are “all false” and there were never “any real negotiations”.
That’s according to his mother and agent Veronique Rabiot, who has hit back at the claims after he failed to move to Old Trafford last year.
Rabiot has regularly been linked with a move to Manchester United over the years but never made the switch, often electing to instead stay at Juventus, who he joined on a free transfer from PSG in 2019.
The 2022 summer transfer window was arguably the closest in which he came to finalising the move, with Manchester United linked throughout that summer as Erik ten Hag spent big in his first summer window at Old Trafford.
That deal never ended up happening as the player remained in Italy and United went on to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid.
Reports at the time indicated that a move had fallen by the wayside as Manchester United were left reeling by the demands the Frenchman had made in negotiations between the two parties.
His mother absolutely disputes that story, though, and insists there weren’t any actual negotiations over a move.
“Did it all fall apart due to a question of money? All false,” he said.
“United wanted to meet me to illustrate the interest in Adrien, but we never talked about money in detail because he quickly decided to stay in Turin. There were never any real negotiations.”
