Incoming Brighton and Hove Albion manager Fabian Hürzeler wants Deniz Undav back at the club next season in the latest development in the transfer saga with VfB Stuttgart.
That’s according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, who reports that the German side are taking the next steps in their negotiation from the striker but could find themselves blocked by Hürzeler.
Stuttgart are determined to wrap up a permanent deal for Undav this summer after his successful loan spell at the club this season.
Negotiations with Brighton have proven to be tough, though, with it explained yesterday that Tony Bloom was threatening to use a clause in the loan deal agreed last summer to counteract the purchase clause Stuttgart have for the striker.
Plettenberg picks up on that today and talks are ‘complicated and tough’ as Stuttgart have the option to buy Undav for €20m but Brighton can react to that by using a ‘direct buy-back’ clause set above €20m.
They, though, would not be allowed to resell Undav if the were to use that clause, meaning he would be remaining in England next season.
That would be against the player’s wishes as he wants to remain in Germany with Stuttgart and his agents are supporting him in this.
However, incoming Brighton manager Hürzeler is ‘determined’ to bring Undav back into the Seagulls fold next season and make him a part of his squad.
Thus, negotiations are stuck. Stuttgart want the striker and he wants to return too but Brighton are playing hardball and their new manager wants him too, leading to the current impasse.
