Much like the André Gomes rumours towards the end of the transfer window, Tottenham being reportedly interested in AC Milan’s Suso was an eyebrow raiser.

Not because he isn’t good enough, far from it, but more because he’s only just managed to make a name for himself in Italy, and leaving so soon, only to end up behind the likes of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen on the pecking order at Wembley would make little sense.

On top of that, the 23-year-old has already had a taste of English football during his rather unsuccessful spell at Liverpool, and returning so soon after leaving never quite seemed on his career plan.

Scoring three goals and picking up four assists in his first eight appearances of the season, the Spaniard is quickly becoming one of Vincenzo Montella’s key pieces at the San Siro, and AC Milan are about to reward him for it.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Serie A side are ready to offer him a new and improved contract, which would keep him at the club for three more years, until 2022.

The quick renewal would put him among the best paid players at the club, despite being still some way off what Leonardo Bonucci is on, showing the trust everyone in Milan has in him.

While he probably would have been paid a similar amount in London, he wouldn’t have the regular first-team football to go with it, and that’s why he’s probably better off in Italy.

Could it be that the Tottenham rumours were planted there for that very purpose? Noooooo, surely not?
