It’s that time of year again.
Leicester City fans worry about the possible exit of Riyad Mahrez, and Atletico Madrid fans fret this is the year Antoine Griezmann will leave.
Well, Spanish newspaper AS believe the two things could be connected.
Atletico are currently trying everything to get Griezmann to snub Barcelona and extend his contract in Madrid, at the same time increasing his buyout clause from €100m.
But they have to be realistic, and losing the Frenchman is a real prospect, so AS have presented the players who could be signed to replace him.
Once of those is Mahrez, and it’s stated: ‘The Franco-Algerian already wanted to go to City, but his departure was cut short.
Now with a Leicester away from Europe, it’s time to look for new horizons. It is not the same position, but remember the Griezmann who came from Real Socidead. Cholo could bring him to the front of the attack to exploit all his magic.’
That would certainly sound very attractive for Mahrez, and if the opportunity presents itself, he may push to leave the Foxes again.
This time he’s probably better getting things sorted out before the last week of the transfer window.
