An image of Red Bull Salzburg’s Erling Braut Haaland signing a Manchester United shirt was posted on Instagram on Tuesday, along with a few other clubs like Leipzig, Napoli, Genk and Leeds United.
This was picked up by fans on Twitter and some even went on to suggest the Norway international signed the United shirt in one location, while the others were at a different time and place.
VG decided to investigate it, but first they thought it would best to give the background.
Norwegian side Rosseland BK had organised a dinner at Bryne Kro & Hotell and the money raised was to be given to the local club.
One of the guests at the event asked the 19-year-old for his autograph on the United shirt, to which he agreed. When the striker was signing the United shirt, someone clicked the picture and posted it on social media.
VG have accessed other images, which clearly show Haaland wearing the same hoodie as the one in the picture that went viral. Even the background appeared to be the same.
They couldn’t gather more information because it was a closed event and VG don’t mention Haaland signing shirts of other clubs.
Another report from VG claims they contacted Manchester United after the picture started doing the rounds on social media. The Red Devils confirmed they are aware of it, but refused to comment on the ongoing reports linking them with the Salzburg star.
Clearly, Haaland signing United shirt doesn’t provide any indication he’s joining them. Instead, he was being polite by obliging to a fan’s request.
