Over the past few days, there’s been repeated claims in Italy about Newcastle United interest in AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw.
On Friday, Calciomercato reported the 22-year-old has to make a decision on whether to join the Magpies or continue at the San Siro. It was also stated his agent is pushing him towards the Premier League.
Newcastle, meanwhile, have been working to sign the defender, according to La Repubblica, relayed by MilanNews.it.
Eddie Howe’s side have ‘concrete interest’ in the centre-back, and have contacted Milan to ask for information about him. The report adds the Rossoneri would need at least €40m to let him leave.
Saturday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport also claims the Tyneside club like Thiaw a lot. The Serie A side have informed Newcastle that they need €40m to sanction the Germany international’s sale this summer.
It’s claimed the Premier League side’s idea was to try and sign the player for €30m. Since they are keen, the report states it’s likely that Newcastle are ready to ‘raise the stakes’, meaning making an offer higher than €30m.
Milan let the price go below €40m as Gazzetta add they could offer a small discount to Newcastle. Both clubs are in favour of a transfer and it’s now down to Howe’s side to make an offer that convinces the Rossoneri.
