As Portuguese newspaper Record today speaks about the interest that Sporting centre-backs may attract in the January transfer window, Newcastle United are mentioned twice.
The outlet first writes about Ousmane Diomande, claiming that even though he’ll be in the African Cup of Nations, he’ll be very much wanted in the market.
Newcastle do get a mention there, along the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Real Madrid, while Sporting would only let him go for his €80m release clause.
Then there’s the story of another player, which is Gonçalo Inácio.
Record claims that the ‘expectation is growing’ regarding the possibility of bids for the Portuguese defender. There it’s recalled that he’s been linked to Newcastle and Real Madrid.
Sporting’s stance is the same as with Diomande, though, and there’s this ‘warning’ that they are only planning on letting Gonçalo Inácio go in case someone triggers his €60m release clause.
The Lions are on top of the league table, well positioned to fight for the title, and won’t even think of negotiating those players in the middle of the season unless they don’t have a choice.
