Celta Vigo are eyeing a move for Brentford midfielder Sergi Canós after seeing a transfer fall by the wayside last year.

That’s according to Grada 3 and journalist Ángel García, who cover the Spaniard’s future today as he looks set to depart Brentford this summer.

They explain that Celta ‘have not forgotten’ about Canós, who they tried to sign last year but didn’t as Brentford’s financial demands at the time made a deal impossible.

Canós also put an end to any possible move as he preferred to stay and fight for his place in Thomas Frank’s squad, something that didn’t work out and led to his loan move to Olympiakos in January.

He’s now returned from that spell in Greece, but the exit door is ‘once again’ open for him as Brentford do not have the Spaniard in their plans moving forwards.

He has a year left on his contract with the Bees and ‘his future is open’ at this point. Celta are aware of this and ‘aim to try his signing again’ as they are struggling to get a deal for Carles Pérez over the line.

They face competition for the Brentford man, though, as Cádiz also want to ‘bet heavily’ on the player after his performances in Greece.

His four goals and three assists in nine games there have ‘given him opportunities’ but it remains to be seen if Celta, or any of his other suitors, are willing to pay what Brentford are looking for.
