Following Rony Deila’s departure from Club Brugge, the Belgian media sat down with the manager, who took some time to also recall his spell as manager of Celtic.
That took place in an interview with Gazet van Antwerpen. In today’s edition, the newspaper features a long conversation with the former Celtic coach, who’s clearly upset with his departure.
Deila admitted he could have done better at Brugge, and claims to be ready for the next challenge in his career, and to prove that he’ll be able to take a new job soon, he says he’s now much better than when he left Celtic some years ago.
“I have more energy than ever. After Celtic I was spent, physically and mentally, but now I still have a lot to offer. I am ready for this level or even higher – I have no doubt about that. Again: it’s sad that it stops here. We deserved better,” said Deila.
Deila took charge of Celtic in the summer of 2014, and stayed in charge of the club for a couple of seasons.
In 118 games there, he had 76 wins, 22 draws and 20 losses, having won the Scottish Premiership in both years.
After leaving Glasgow, he worked at Valerenga, New York City, Standard Liege and now Club Brugge.
It turns out that he’s still 48, though, so there should be indeed plenty of more to come in his career, although it doesn’t sound like a return to Celtic would be on the cards.
