Grêmio still haven’t received any offers from English sides for Luan. Despite reports saying Manchester United, Liverpool and Leicester City would be keen to sign the player, the club’s board has denied having any contact with these clubs.
Speaking to Sport Witness, Grêmio’s football director Antonio Dutra said: “We haven’t received any bids. That’s all I can tell you, because there’s nothing.”
Leicester, especially, were strongly linked to the player last month, when reports in Brazil suggested that Grêmio were only waiting for an offer of at least €25m.
But according to the official, that bid was never made: “There wasn’t an offer as well. Probably there was something between his agent and the club, but nothing has arrived to Grêmio.”
When asked about how much Grêmio will demand for Luan, the director said: “We don’t have the figures defined, but it’s much more than what’s been reported.”
Despite starting the Olympics on the bench, Luan earned a place in the starting team and has been outstanding for Brazil in the past few games.
He already has three goals and two assists in the tournament, and as one of the best players of the team, it was just a matter of time before he caught the attention of European teams.
Luan has been playing for Brazil as an advanced midfielder, but he can also do a good job on the wings or as a striker.
At 23, he’s one of the best players of the national league, with five goals and six assists in 14 appearances this season.
