Reports that Sofiane Boufal was due to have his Southampton medical on Saturday were jumping the gun a little. There’s no problem with the deal but Sport Witness have been informed Boufal’s medical with the Premier League club was simply scheduled a day later, on Sunday.
The 22 year old has agreed a five year contact with Southampton, and believes the club will suit him perfectly. Several clubs were following Boufal last season, with Tottenham Hotspur among those sending scouts to Lille to check on the young star.
There was always likely to be widespread interest in the player, and Lille have been prepared to sell, as long as they get their €20m.
Boufal has personally decided to sign for Southampton for several reasons. He feels it’s a stable club who are progressing and is looking forward to playing Europa League football. The player is impressed by the club’s structure and believes it offers him everything to progress his career, with the presence of a French manager in Claude Puel also a positive.
