At the start of the season, Wolverhampton Wanderers agreed to loan Chiquinho to Famalicão.
The winger is a regular starter at the Portuguese side, with three goals and two assists in 19 appearances, and seems to be happy there.
Chiquinho spoke to Famalicão’s official channels and his quotes are today highlighted by newspaper Record.
The Wolves player started by explaining his choice for the Portuguese club, claiming he knew the kind of teammates he’d have there.
“I chose Famalicão because it was an exciting project, knowing that I would be with colleagues my own age and who are ambitious. It’s important to surround myself with teammates who want to go up and aren’t comfortable at the level they’re at, they want to go up high. I felt that this was the right group, with young people who want to go far. They helped me not to fall into a process where I could get complacent.”
Chiquinho praised the season they’re having at Famalicão, and is happy that the team is back in good shape now.
“I hope to continue to develop as a player and as a person and to help Famalicão achieve its goals. The goals I can score, I’ll score. I’ve been hitting the post a lot unfortunately, but I’ve been training to get the ball in.
“We’ve been growing. We deserved to win a few games ago, but fortunately we managed to hold on to the win, the lead, and win the last one.”
The winger is loaned by Wolves to Famalicão until the end of the season, and there’s been no information on whether the Portuguese side have an option to buy him.
Chiquinho was bought by the Molineux side in January 2022, for €3.5m from Estoril. He only played for the Premier League side for six months, having three assists in nine appearances.
He was then sent to Stoke City on loan last season, and is now fulfilling a year at Famalicão. His contract with Wolves runs until 2026.
