Ipswich Town signed Ivan Azon on loan from Como last summer. Since then, the deal has paid off and excitement is growing around the Spaniard.
The forward has played an important role in promotion, scoring five times and racking up four assists. Furthermore, his prominence has only increased in 2026, as the Spaniard has three goals and four assists this year.
This seems to have caught the attention of Como, who are set to play in Europe next season.
Today’s Gazzetta dello Sport looks at Azon’s perception in Italy, with Cesc Fabregas keen on having him back at the club.
Joy at development
The newspaper believe Alvaro Morata’s signing was going to hold back Azon’s development at Como. Fabregas was against the idea, however the decision to loan him to Ipswich Town has now reaped rewards.
There is happiness at how the striker has developed in England. In particular, Como have kept a close eye on him throughout, having paid €2m to sign him in the winter of 2025.
Fabregas is therefore now ready to welcome him back ‘with open arms’. Morata is expected to part ways in the summer and as a result, Azon will act as an effective replacement.
The Spaniard’s versatility is viewed as a big plus, as he can also play in the wide areas. The fact that Azon could impose himself in England is taken as a big sign that he can make the cut in Italy and add depth when Como play in Europe next season.
Ipswich spell key for Azon
The loan in England came at the right time for the 23-year-old. Early in his stint at Como, he was facing fitness problems that held him back and he desperately needed to prove himself. Thus, the move to Ipswich arrived at a crucial moment.
At Ipswich Town, Azon’s range of strengths have shined through. Despite being tall, he boasts technical abilities that help him combine with fellow attacking players. In addition, he has a very reliable finishing ability which has been evident every time he has scored this season.
Fabregas’ system relies on positional exchanges across the pitch.
