With Moises Caicedo seemingly on his way out of Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer, a replacement will need to be found.
The Ecuador international was the subject of a number of offers in the January transfer window, but the Seagulls stood strong and managed to keep him, perhaps a bit against his will.
He’s now back, though, and will play under Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton until the end of the season, at which point a decision will need to be made.
However, the Italian manager already appears to have a name in mind to take over in midfield, and that’s Davide Frattesi.
Currently at Sassuolo, the Italian player has been courted by Brighton for some time, but there is fierce competition from AS Roma, who are his preferred destination.
Then we must now add Juventus to the mix, who, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, are trying to focus more on Italian talents than foreign ones going forward.
The newspaper explain that ‘there is a lot of competition’ for the Turin side, ranging from De Zerbi’s Brighton to Roma.
The latter ‘seem to have the advantage’, but that’s excluding potentially ‘excessive’ offers from England, namely the Seagulls, who could perhaps convince Frattesi to ignore his childhood club and try a new adventure in the Premier League.
We’ll have to wait and see, but it remains difficult for Brighton to pull this off, especially if the player remains intent on staying in his home country.
