Real Sociedad star Mikel Merino has ended up on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar, according to Fichajes.net.
For weeks, claims from Italy and Spain have stated Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is not pleased with his limited game time and could leave Spurs in January, and Juventus and Atlético Madrid have been named as options for the midfielder.
Faced with the possibility of losing the 28-year-old, Tottenham are in the market looking for a new player and this is where Merino would fit in.
Both the Denmark international and Merino can operate as a holding midfielder or in the middle of the pitch, and Fichajes.net say the latter’s versatility and qualities make him an attractive target for the north London club.
Spurs have had an impressive start to the season under Ange Postecoglou, who is looking for a new midfielder with ‘exceptional quality and technical skills’.
It’s claimed the 27-year-old Spaniard is the answer, and he also has Premier League experience from his time at Newcastle United.
Fichajes.net state there’s belief Tottenham could negotiate a deal worth around €50m with La Real for Merino, but whether that’ll truly be enough to take him away from the La Liga side needs to be seen.
