Gustavo Scarpa may have been a flop at Nottingham Forest, but he’s now been able to prove his quality again.
The midfielder has been doing great in the first few fixtures of the Brasileirão, and is getting big compliments from the local media.
On Trivela, journalist Mauricio Noriega features a column pointing out the reasons why Scarpa couldn’t succeed at Nottingham Forest and is now, again, one of the best players in his home country.
“By South American standards, Gustavo Scarpa is a great player. Capable of being the decisive factor in the continent’s main domestic championship. In Europe, especially in England, even because of his style of play and physical complexion, he hasn’t made a difference,” says Mauricio Noriega on Trivela.
“You could argue that he had little time, that his team in England was weak, but when you look at the success of other Brazilian players in English football, Scarpa’s disadvantage becomes clear. Even though he is a player of excellent technical ability and great versatility.”
The midfielder had injuries and personal issues which were big obstacles during his time in England, and struggled to adapt to the Premier League.
Nottingham Forest soon gave up on him, first loaning him out to Olympiacos, and then selling him to Atlético-MG in January this year, for just €5m.
This weekend, in a 4-0 win over Cruzeiro in the Minas Gerais derby, he had another great performance with this nice assist.
